Advice

If you are applying to a scheme to get your foot into television or film, Sam Fray - our Director of Talent Development - has some advice for getting it right:

  1. Don’t over load the first question with all your information, make sure you read all the questions before you answer and plan out what you’re going to say.
  2. Please make sure you send your documents in the formats suggested.
  3. Do your RESEARCH - there are so many industry videos out there from people who already work in the industry. Reach out to people who have already been on the scheme.
  4. Check what documents you’ve uploaded, to avoid submitting the same document, change file names.
  5. Put dates against your work experience, writing just the year or the month you've done work experience, when in fact you’ve only done a week or two days could read like you have more experience than you do. Be specific!
  6. When asked to pick a production company you would like to work with please just pick one. In order to answer this question you’ll really need to do your research! It also shows the person reading your application that you really want to work for that company.
  7. When submitting your CV make sure you tailor it to the job description pulling out the skills and the experience that suits the role you’re applying for. I've read lots of applications where the CV didn’t represent the experience mentioned within the questions.
  8. If possible, get a friend or colleague to read over your answers.

Remember – these are great opportunities, so take your time and put your best effort into it!
